DIRECTING A LABOR OF LOVE

A work of fiction is based on an individual's subjective view of facts. My mission as a director is to effectively tell the story and expose the very depths of the human heart, the soul and the spirit, with no apologies.

I don't judge the characters or their actions. This can be a risky, dangerous, draining task...and I love every minute of it!

WELCOME HOME EDDY is a story about the consequences of a mother's particular manifestation of the love that she has for her only begotten son.

Although it is told through the eyes of one Latino family, the messages are there for all of us to reflect upon. Being given the chance to direct an earth shattering story like this for the screen is a tremendous privilege.

Once I met the Writer, Carla P. Morales, and read WELCOME HOME EDDY, I fell in love with this passionate author and her creation. There was simply no turning back!

We produced the short "trailer" version of the film out of our own pockets because this story must be told. The entire process was completed in nine and a half days.

The raw footage was acquired in the 16:9 aspect ration with a Sony D-50 Betacam SP camera, fully rigged for "electronic cinematography" that was often supported with a Cinekinetics Micro Jib. (The full-length feature is budgeted for Super 16 mm film acquisition.)

After transferring everything to Mini-DV tape stock, it was posted in Final Cut Pro on a 17" Apple Powerbook system with Lacie external hard drives and a Pro Tools audio sweetening box. This also includes arranging an original score.

Due to the dark, disturbing nature of the subject matter, Carla was very apprehensive about bringing this story to the public, for fear that it would be much more than many people could safely handle.

We soon agreed that we must expose and confront the darkness that lies within us all in the hopes of diffusing it and making more room for light to exist in our lives. I believe that she wrote it while under the influence of Divine Intervention.

WELCOME HOME EDDY is a portrayal of real-life horrors that we can't afford to hide from any longer.

The feature length version of WELCOME HOME EDDY is currently in the financing and development stage.
